Tuscia: A Journey Through Time Among the City of Popes, the Lake, and the Suspended Village

An immersive educational journey that combines learning with the discovery of the local area.

An educational trip to Tuscia offers students a comprehensive overview of the history and geology of central Italy. A stop in Viterbo—the “City of Popes”—allows them to admire the perfectly preserved medieval San Pellegrino district and the majestic Palace of the Popes, a center of Christianity in the 13th century.

The journey continues to Bolsena, where Europe’s largest volcanic lake serves as an ideal classroom for lessons in natural science and ancient history—ranging from Etruscan traces to the charm of the medieval village. A particularly evocative highlight is the visit to Civita di Bagnoregio: perched on a tufa spur and accessible only via a pedestrian bridge, the “dying city” offers an unforgettable lesson on the fragility of the landscape, badland erosion, and the resilience of a unique global heritage. It is a residential experience that combines culture, geology, and breathtaking scenery.
