Goleto and the Village: A Journey into the Millennial Abbey of Sant’Angelo

An immersive educational journey that combines learning with the discovery of the local area.

Sant’Angelo dei Lombardi is a key stop for understanding the more solemn and spiritual side of Irpinia. The area’s undisputed jewel is the Abbey of Goleto, a thousand-year-old monastic complex founded by Saint William of Vercelli, where Romanesque and Gothic architecture blend together amidst an atmosphere of rare beauty and silence.

Beyond the abbey walls, the town preserves precious traces of its medieval soul, evidenced by the Castle and Cathedral that overlook the settlement. Exploring these sites offers students the opportunity to reflect not only on the history of art and monasticism but also on the value of reconstructing and preserving cultural heritage—a journey amidst ancient stones that continue to tell stories of excellence, spirituality, and rebirth.
